Spotted Towhee
Spotted Towhee, Tilden Regional Park, February 17, 2024
The calls of Spotted Towhees make up a big piece of the soundtrack nearly every time I go for a walk in the East Bay hills. But they can be hard to see (clearly) because they forage by scraping the ground to find insects under the protection of dense shrubs. It was a treat to see this one on a prominent perch in the rain.
